Writing a book is like planting a garden – you start with a seed of an idea, but you don’t always know what will bloom 🪴. As I work on my debut novel, Whispers Through the Magnolias, I’ve been reflecting on how this journey has shaped me. Here are five lessons I’ve learned along the way.
1️⃣ Show Up Imperfectly: some days, the words flow. Other days, it’s like pulling teeth. But every word, I write brings me closer to the finish line.
2️⃣ Let the Story Lead You: I had a plan, but my characters had their own ideas. Following their lead has been one of the most rewarding surprises.
3️⃣ You’re Never Alone: whether it’s encouragement from friends or advice from fellow writers, this community has been my lifeline ❤️
4️⃣ Doubt is Normal: I’ve questioned everything—from my plot to my abilities. But I remind myself that even my favorite authors started somewhere.
5️⃣Every Step Matters: celebrating the small milestones, like finishing a chapter or finding the perfect name for a character, keeps me motivated.
✨Whispers Through the Magnolias has taught me as much about myself as it has about storytelling. What’s a lesson your creative journey has taught you?
